Golfing in Fancourt

There is no doubt that Fancourt is South Africa’s premier golf resort, featuring three highly rated Championship golf courses as well as the Western Cape’s premier 18-hole public course.

Fancourt’s Montagu course was originally designed by Gary Player and claims the 6th spot on Golf Digest SA’s list of top South African courses. The finely conditioned course provides a near perfect golfing experience along tree-lined fairways.

Golf Digest ranked Fancourt’s Outeniqua course at number 16 in South Africa. Also designed by Gary Player, this parkland course offers a more laidback golfing experience as it presents a slightly easier game than the Montagu. It does come with its fair share of challenges – including water hazards on 11 of the holes.

Golfing in the Garden Route City of George

The scenic and popular Garden Route City of George plays host to the respected Par 72, 18 hole George Golf Course. Set at the foot of the Outeniqua Mountains the Club offers breath taking landscapes of the mountain and surrounding plateau.

A regular feature in South Africa’s Top Ten golf courses, George Golf Club is by all means a South African must-play and every golfer is encouraged to take the trip out and sip in some of the magnificence on display here. So respected for its playability is George that some locals prefer it over the Fancourt Trio located nearby.

George is one the oldest clubs in the country, designed by Dr Charles Molteno Murray and absolutely swims in history. Keeping the fairways and greens in top notch has been one of the main priorities and visitors can see for themselves just how much passion goes into keeping the grounds pristine. The greens have been revamped in recent years too!

The course offers three tees ranging from Championship to Ladies and visitors are of course readily welcomed by the warm & friendly club members to join in a two-tee start that takes place twice day and you are forewarned that booking is essential.

Facilities include caddies, clubhouse, motorized carts a pro shop and all that you have come to expect from the great courses in South Africa.

Golfing in Oubaai Golf Club

Oubaai Golf Club, an 18-hole championship golf course and driving range. The Clubhouse has a dramatic location that overlooks the 16th, 17th and 18th greens. Open-air terraces offer panoramic views of the Indian Ocean and the Gwaing River valley.

The Ernie Els golf design philosophy is based on flexibility. Concepts are moulded according to the landscape, not vice versa. The aim is to produce courses that are fun to play and that enhance the surrounding environment. In addition, golf courses fairly display challenges and hazards while affording players the opportunity to use a full range of shots and plan strategically for individual holes.

The course measures 6516m from the pro tee's which is uniquely long for a Coastal course. Oubaai offers a wonderfully stimulating and enjoyable golfing experience.

The resort offers full facilities including a Clubhouse with breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean,  Locker-rooms and Pro-Shop. The Course has 5 Par 3's and 5 Par 5's.

The 6th is a Par 3 - the green is framed by the Outeniqua Mountains in the distance and the Gwaing River flows below you. A 120 metre drive is required to cross the gorge and reach the fairway.  The 17th is the most photographed hole, where the green meets the ocean.

The green is guarded by 4 bunkers with ever changing winds making it one of the most challenging plays.  The course is designed to be enjoyed by golfers of all abilities.
